Armacor’s performance has kept it a regularly-spec’d product downhole and on pipe for almost two decades. The product is so reliable that it sells itself on a daily basis.
BENEFITS OF ARMACOR DOWNHOLE AND IN THE FIELD
Included among the numerous benefits Armacor can bring to your drilling projects, both offshore and onshore, are:
- Strength - superior bonding strengths
- Hardness - even at sustained, elevated temperatures
- Longevity and Performance - Armacor’s hard wear surface and tough fracture resistant substructure delivers enduring performance, even in the harshest drilling conditions
- Reduced Replacement Costs
- Low Friction Coefficient
INVITING NON-UNIFORM WELDS WITH THE WRONG HARDBANDING CHOICE
Non-uniform, high angle welds common with hardbanding materials that compete with Armacor, have the potential for generating high, frictional heat. Unlike formation heat, this frictional heat can reach surface temperatures high enough to ‘heat check’ tool joints (in excess of 1200 F/650 C) which frequently leads to spalling and cracks propagating into the tool joint itself.
THE HARD WORKING HARDBAND
Armacor has remained the choice product on drill pipe because it is a hard working hardband that simply keeps on working hard. It has proven itself on tool joints and risers, supporting the drilling efforts of operating companies and contract drillers in some of the harshest and most challenging drilling environments around the globe. Armacor continues to sell itself as a result of its enduring performance in applications where corrosion, erosion, abrasion and downtime remain significant challenges.
THE HARDBANDING CHOICE
When selecting a hardband, consider and evaluate the following critical variables. Do not hesitate to pose these questions to your drill pipe manufacturer, distributor or hardbanding application company:
- Which hardbanding chemistry is best suited to your tool joint?
- Which hardbanding is the easiest to apply?
- How many spalling problems have you had to repair on Armacor hardbanding versus chrome carbide hardbanding?
- What effect does the percentage of alloy content in hardbanding wires have on the longevity of the tool joint?
- Is the percentage of alloy content of your hardband sufficient to justify its cost?
TOOL JOINT COMPATIBILITY
Armacor’s extremely low carbon content ensures its compatibility with the tool joint. Aramcor’s chemistry enables it to sustain its ‘hot hardness’ beyond materials with differing chemistries. Therefore, a tool joint hardbanded with Armacor will be protected to a higher degree by its amorphous structure than a wire bearing a traditional crystalline structure.
